Fatima's fifth grade has been participating in the Connecticut Kid Governors program. Students have been learning about Connecticut's three branches of government and what it takes to be a political candidate.
Earlier this week, each student selected a platform and developed a three point plan to address their community issue.  Five students participated in Fatima's Connecticut Kid Governor primary election and delivered speeches on their platforms which covered community issues such as drug company warnings, homelessness, expanding student independence, global warming and recycling.  The class evaluated each candidate on their leadership skills, enthusiasm, platform plan, how the candidate would represent them, and the candidate's overall ability to be a good Connecticut Kid Governor.  The fifth graders then voted for their candidate (but only after they completed and provided their voter registration card!). The candidate whose community issue is recycling won the Primary!
