Dear Fatima Parents,
I have some great school news to share.
MORE FREEDOM AT RECESS AS CDC RECOMMENDATIONS CHANGE:
Over the weekend of March 21, the CDC changed its recommendation for social distance from six feet to three feet. On Monday morning, I called Barry Bogle from Wilton Health and asked him what impact this would have on us and could we begin to allow the class cohorts to mix together at recess. He told me we could, so we began allowing classes to play with other classes outside on Monday, March 22. The kids loved it!
FATIMA TRIVIA VIRTUAL EVENT:
Our “Lucky to be a Fatima Family” trivia night took place on Saturday, March 20. I want to thank all the families that participated and I left amazed at the tremendous amount of trivia knowledge our students possess around Disney movies!
TRAVELING FOR EASTER:
I know many families travel for the Spring Break. During the pandemic, the official policy of the Board of Our Lady of Fatima is to follow the guidance of the Wilton Health Department. Last week, the state of Connecticut announced that the travel mandates and requirements are no longer in place. The Wilton Health Department has adopted the guidance from the CDC. Please see attached. Please note that the Wilton Health Department strongly recommends that travelers follow the guidance, testing, and quarantine immediately after travel, but they no longer mandates it. The website portal.ct.gov remains an important resource with up-to-the-minute COVID information for families. If you have any questions on this important topic, please contact Nurse Sue or Nurse Evelyn.
CROSS-COUNTRY PRACTICE IS COMING AFTER EASTER:
The weather is finally getting nice just in time for cross-country to begin! At present, there are only virtual meets, not in-person meets but it will be good to get our fifth through eighth-graders outside and running again. More details to follow after the Easter Break.
SOMETHING SPECIAL STORE NEEDS YOU:
Our school is so fortunate to have the financial support from the boutique store, Something Special. Do you like beautiful and unusual household items? Something Special is the place for you. The store is located just south of the school on Parish property. It operates from 12:00 to 4:30 on the weekends. It is staffed entirely by our parent volunteers! The store is managed by Joanne Salageanu who has instituted this year a number of safety procedures such as limiting the number of people in the store due to the pandemic. Joanne in her other job is a research scientist and was an important member of our Safety Team this past summer as we developed our school reentry protocols. If you can provide a block of time to help at Something Special, it would really help support the school. Here is the link to the sign-up:
SUMMER PROGRAM FOR PRIMARY GRADES:
We are excited to be offering a summer program again this year for primary grade students (students this year in Pre-K, K, and 1st.). It is not too late to sign up for this great program. The program will run five days a week 8-5 from June 21st to August 20. The headteachers will be Ms. Trani, Miss Katelyn, and Miss Mariah. Please find attached the application with additional information.
Connor Bowron. In my last Principal’s newsletter, I listed all the Fatima alumni who had made the recent Honor Rolls at St. Joseph’s High School. I inadvertently left off 9th-grader, Connor Bowron. My apologies to Connor, and my congratulations to Connor on this academic achievement and for making us proud!
