                                                          Dear Fatima Community,

I hope you and your family are doing well during these unprecedented times. I am writing to give you a weekly update on our school as we continue Distance Learning.

DISTANCE LEARNING:The teachers continue to work hard providing a range of different mini-lessons this week from Pre-K through 8th-grade. One great example of our Distance Learning program was highlighted this week in Good Morning, Wilton and in Fairfield Catholic . Mrs. Gammardella was interviewed about her fantastic Distance Learning strategies teaching Pre-K students. Here is the link to these two great stories in case you missed the articles.

Please share these links on your social media or directly with any family you know that might be looking for a great Pre-K program next year.

COMMUNITY MEETING:
Kevin Vallerie, School Board President, hosted a fun and energetic virtual community meeting on Tuesday evening. It was wonderful to see and hear you again! I am so impressed how our community is still working to stay connected while we are shut-in. Also, I was very appreciative of the positive feedback for our Distance Learning program. Our great teachers deserve all the attributes they received. Peter Scimeca summed it up by describing our teachers as , "they haven't missed a beat."

At the meeting, Mara Fleming announced the first annual Our Lady of Fatima Virtual Talent Show. This special, and not to be missed, event will be broadcasted at 1:30 p.m. on Memorial Day. Videos are due by Thursday, May 21st and should be submitted to mfleming@olfcatholic.org. Great idea, Mara. Come show us your talent, Fatima!

In case you missed the meeting,  Kevin and the school board are planning to host another one soon so watch for details to be announced. At the meeting, I gave a short school update. If you are interested, here is the link to my presentation. (Also, a special thank you to Susan Miller for her help with my presentation!)

                                                 Community Meeting Cinco de Mayo

RICE BOWLS: We will continue to collect the Rice Bowls that were sent home during Lent  for one more week. There will be a bin outside the school when I am there. I am at school every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thank you for your generosity

MORNING PRAYERS: During this difficult time, if there is someone you would like the school to pray for, just send me an email and I will include them in our prayer rotation. And yes, I still very much miss the help of the 8th-graders with the prayers!

TECHNOLOGY UPDATE: The Chromebooks have become such a vital part of our Distance Learning. If your child is experiencing technical problems, please let me know. We still have some Chromebooks in school and Mr. Rob is available to consult and problem-solve with you.

YEARBOOKS:Reminder that 19/20 Yearbook orders are being accepted. The Yearbooks will be beautiful and the cost is $40. Just mail Diane your check and email her at dfavier@olfcatholic.org.  Checks can be mailed to the school.  Yearbooks can also be ordered and paid for directly on the Lifetouch site.  Go to YBPay.com and enter the school code 1956520 to complete your order.

"SHOUT-OUT I"

Hector Pachas. It was a beautiful spring day on Thursday, and Hector volunteered his photography skills to take individual pictures of our graduating 8th-graders. The boys looked sharp in their best clothes and the girls all  looked beautiful in their spring dresses! This event would not have been possible without the generosity of Hector volunteering his time and talent. Thank you, Hector.

"SHOUT-OUT II"

All our great Fatima teachers: Mara Fleming, Geri Galasso, Becky Gammmardella, Rose Highland, Monica Isla de Shaw, Anne Jovic, Kelly Kirby, Danielle Mancuso, Mary Obermayer, Patty O'Shea, Kathleen Rooney, Angelo Tsingerliotis, and Carol Wiemer. The transition to Distance Learning has been challenging to our students, our parents, but also to our teachers. In my years of education, there has never been anything that compares to the tremendous change that has occurred over the last eight weeks with the use of technology in instruction. This week is Teacher Appreciation Week and we come together to appreciate the great effort and work of our Fatima teachers! Thank you, Fatima teachers

AND FINALLY:

May is called the Month of Mary. This month we give thanks that God has given us Mary as our spiritual mother. We are so fortunate to have our school named after Mary in her title of Our Lady of Fatima. Sunday is Mother's Day. We give thanks and gratitude for Mary, our Mother and all mothers living and deceased.
