September 6, 2019

I love the above quote that I got from Mrs. Kirby. I think this is one of the most valuable lessons that we can teach our children: how after a mistake or problem, to pick-up the pieces, learn from the experience, and go forward into the future with this new knowledge. If our children can learn this process they will have taken a big step in developing the important trait of resilience.

I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day and a special recognition to all our working parents, all our teachers and all our staff!

SPECIAL

We had a memorable Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with Bishop Caggiano on Friday, August 30. Bishop Caggiano and Father Reggie co- celebrated the 9:00 Mass and then we came back to school for the ribbon cutting ceremony to recognize our school becoming an Academy. We were joined by a number of local dignitaries including State Representative, Gail Lavielle; Dr. Steve Cheeseman, Superintendent of the Diocese of Bridgeport Schools; State Senator, Will Haskell; Lori Bufano, Selectwoman of Wilton; and Joshua S. Cole Selectman of Wilton. Thank you to all who were able to join us!

IMPORTANT BUSINESS

Open School Night

This Monday is Open School Night and it is a very important meeting where you will hear important information on our school, on our new Academy model, on our school events, on our fundraising, on our new lunch program, on our athletic program, and meet your child's teachers and hear their expectations and plan for the year. This year, to take in account the needs of our parents with young children, we will have the general school meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the gym, followed by classroom presentations. All presentations will be completed by 7:30 and we will offer light refreshments back in the gym. We do plan to offer babysitting from our middle school students. We hope this shortened schedule, without a dinner, will make it easier for all families to join us that night.

Drop Off/Pick UP

I am very happy with how the new procedures of dropping off and picking up from the back of the school is going. It has been going extremely well and I thank everyone for their efforts.

Lunch

As you know, this year, we have a new lunch program. The kids tell me that the food is delicious! Sushi for lunch? CT Catering offers delicious, hot lunches ordered online and then delivered to the classroom each day. Donette from CT Catering will be here at Open School Night to explain the online ordering system and answer any questions you may have.

PARENTS

Parent Association

The Parent Association is back! Clara Taveras will discuss at Open House. The first meeting of the Parent Association will be Wednesday, September 25th at 7:00 p.m. in the school's religion room. All are welcome and all are needed!

Teacher Support

We are creating a volunteer teacher support team this year. We need your help in our S.T.E.A.M. room, art room, and primary classrooms and during recess. Your role will be supporting the teaching staff and/or monitoring student activities. Do you have ninety minutes of time, or do you know someone, who has ninety minutes of time on a weekly basis to volunteer at our school? No experience is necessary and the schedule and hours are flexible. Just contact the school office.

Yearbook

Speaking of volunteers: Liliana Benanti has graduated and that means that her mom, Anne Benanti will not be overseeing the yearbook this year. We are looking for a new parent to take over this role. Please let me know if you are interested.

Full Year Calendar

This summer, I have been working on a complete 19/20 school calendar that will have all school activities, family activities, and fundraising activities for the year. It will be distributed shortly.

EVENTS
Cookout & Movie Night

The annual Parish/School Cookout will take place tonight in the gym starting at 5:00. This is a great chance to socialize and come together. The Cookout will be followed immediately by Family Movie Night. Both events are free!! Kevin Vallerie is setting up the movie. Please plan to join us for this great night!

Special Mass 9/8@9AM

This Sunday, September 8th Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Academy will be celebrating our name change at the 9:00 Mass. We will offer coffee and refreshments right after Mass and any student who attends in their fall uniform will get a Dress Down Coupon for Monday, September 9th.

ENRICHMENT

Does your child love the Theater? This year's production led by Mara Fleming will be the PIED PIPER'S WILD WEST SHOW. It will begin on Monday, September 16th   for all first through eighth-grade students and after four days of practices, they will perform their play on Friday, September 20th. This will be an exciting week for all interested students. Practice will be every day from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. More information to come.

Cross Country

Cross-Country is beginning on September 18th. Yea! Please find the information letter from coaches Amber Pace, Joanne Salageanu, and Diane Robinson in your email inbox. Please encourage your 5th through 8th -grade student to come out and get in shape, build good life-long health habits, and enjoy the fun!

"Shout Out I"

Mary Obermayer. It is impressive that Mrs. Obermayer took the challenge of moving from 5th -grade to Kindergarten/First grade team this year. But it is even more impressive that Mrs. O took the time last spring to visit primary classrooms in our school, and in other schools in the district to learn best teaching practices. But it is even more impressive that Mrs. O was here almost every day in the summer preparing her new classroom and her curriculum. Finally, she is often the first teacher in the building in the morning and one of the last to leave. And she even likes to cook! Thank, you Mrs. O.

"Shout Out II"

Father Reggie. The students walked over to Mass this morning and Father Reggie gave another inspiring homily. Did you know that Tuesday was Father Reggie's birthday? Thank you for all you do for our school and the Parish, Father Reggie!
